Like to See DIfference in AV Payoffs

deaconfrost

I throughly enjoyed myself at the Finale 2012. I was fortunate enough to place in the #10--13th place. But I would like to comment on the average payoffs. I feel as though there should be some differentiation in the money paid in the average. A team that "outropes" another team should be paid more for their efforts. Even as little as $25 diference should split the places up.

That can be done but….. We generally take out the go-round money, then $150,000 for the consolation, then $214,000 for those back 29 positions. So basically everything is back loaded until we get to the 15th hole , then whatever is left in the pot we use true WS percentage calculations. Fifteenth in the aggregate is calculated at 3% of the money left after back load ( everything behind it has to be under 3%). So we divide up the back 29 holes with $214,000. I think you can see if we start backfilling from 44th, it doesn’t take very much money increase for 16th to pay more than 15th. Mathematically if we keep that transition smooth front to back, 44th will pay less than entry fees, which is just a rule we have never broken. The other thing is how payoffs are progressive. At just $100 per man better, if your backloading and start at 44th and pay $200 more to 43rd, then $400 more for 42nd and on and on, that would shift $76,000 to the backside, with 16th paying $15,000, so now we have to backload all the way to 1st place. That will shift about $400,000 downward in the first 15 places, and away from the first four places. I guess we just don’t have that much socialism in us, we feel the winners should win big, the back half 22nd to 44th most probably roped a leg or missed, and are happy to make just a little money, and tell everyone how that leg cost them $60,000.
Denny, you guys are always on tithe cutting edge of the roping world and it's amazing what is possible. Thanks for all you do. I saw a roping flyer the other day proposing the same payout from first to last place I'm not sure how I feel about that much innovation. Socialism is a slippery slope. thanks...
Mark, its not a matter of fixin stuff that aint broke, its just always exploring the potential to do things a little better. Just look at all the rodeos , horse shows etc, doing things just the same as they did fifty sixty years ago, and can't figure out whats wrong.
I guess I don't understand the question or problem. My theory is if it ain't broke don't fix it...
Ben, lets try this, lets take $46,800 from the first 15th holes, Since 15th place pays $12,000, 16.11,800, 11,600 11,400 11,200 11,000 10,800 10,600 10,400 10,200 10,000 9.800 9,600 9,400 9,200 9,000 8,800 8,600 8,400 8,200 8,000 7,800 7,600 7,400 7,200 7,000 6,800 6,400 6,200

With all effort and luck it takes to qualify and make the top 44, it does make sense for these holes to be the best paid contestants. If consilation was reduced to money back at best, the real ave would pay better deeper in the line. Consolation payout is where socialism is in play by paying teams that mess up more that those who real roped better(three in a row-main ave) got paid less.
